In a very unscientific survey (but tonnes of fun nonetheless) it was discovered that those of us who make up the Golden Secondary School community LIKE to talk about the books we remember reading when children. This finding, in itself, is enough to make sure we put reading aloud on the top 5 list of things to do with little kids (our cousins, the kids we babysit, our own children etc).
By far, Laura Numeroff’s If you give a Mouse a Cookie, If you give a Pig a Pancake, If you give a Moose a Muffin were top picks of Golden’s teens. Classic series like Winnie the Pooh and Harry Potter were memorable for many as were other “oldies” like Silverstein’s The Giving Tree and Eastman’s Go Dog Go.
This Thursday is World Read Aloud Day. Who will you read to?
